Asgard

Brute force · 38 cards

How Asgard plays

Asgard does not negotiate. It has the highest average attack in the game and the lowest elemental bonus, which means it almost never needs the element to win a clash: it simply breaks the threat from above. The price is fragile defence, so every card you leave on the table is an invitation.

Faction profile

Trait Asgard
Archetype Brute force
Attack Very high (up to 7)
Defence Medium-low
Elemental bonus Lowest on average (1 to 3)
Beats Takamagahara ⛩️ — raw numbers need no element
Struggles against Olympus 🏛️ — walls hold and punish

Its path to victory

Its plan is constant pressure: force the opponent to answer every single turn until they run out of answers. Many of its cards loot — from the graveyard, the deck or the enemy hand — so each win leaves it stronger and the opponent with less life, which here means less hand.

It is the easiest faction to learn and the most punishing to autopilot: because its defence does not hold, winning the exchange is not enough if you lose the next turn for free.

Its weakness: Olympus’ high defences, which hit back and turn its aggression into self-inflicted attrition.

Signature cards

  • Brynhildr (legendary) — 7 ATK / 8 DEF · Fire. she trades her life for a certain win: she beats whatever card stands in front of her, whatever its numbers, and falls alongside it.
  • Jǫrmungandr (legendary) — 7 ATK / 6 DEF · Water. win the clash and you look at the rival’s hand and pick two discards; and whoever brings the serpent down is left at 0 defence for as long as they stay on the field.
  • Fenrir (epic) — 6 ATK / 5 DEF · Earth. the wolf that ignores the element and knocks two points off the defence of whatever it faces.
  • Ragnar Lodbrok (epic) — 6 ATK / 4 DEF · Wind. every clash he wins draws him an extra card.

The faction triangle

No faction always wins, and that is the point: Asgard's brute force breaks Takamagahara's evasion, Takamagahara's evasion slips past Olympus' walls, and Olympus' walls hold Asgard's force. On top of that triangle sits the elemental cycle, which can flip a losing clash.

And since decks mix factions freely, nothing forces you to play pure Asgard: the usual approach is to lean on its identity and patch its holes with cards from the other two.
